2nd Sword Art Online: Progressive Film Release in India Rescheduled for April 14th

PVR Pictures has recently announced on Twitter that it will release the highly anticipated anime film, Sword Art Online The Movie – Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night, in Indian theaters on April 14. The movie, which is the second installment in the Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- anime film series, was postponed from its previous release date of February 10.

The film’s debut in Japan on October 22, after a delay, garnered immediate success, topping the box office charts in its opening weekend. As of December 6, the film has earned an impressive cumulative total of 1,076,475,134 yen (about US$7.97 million). The returning cast includes Kaede Hondo as Liten and Yūsuke Kobayashi as Morte.

Ayako Kohno, who previously worked on popular anime titles like Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic and The Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Sky, returned to direct the film at A-1 Pictures, while Kento Toya, known for his work on Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld and The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of The Commandments, returned to design the characters. The film’s action director is Yasuyuki Kai, and Yuki Kajiura is the composer for the movie’s music. Eir Aoi, a popular Japanese singer, performed the movie’s theme song “Shinzо̄” (Heart).

The Sword Art Online: Progressive novel series, written by Reki Kawahara, serves as the basis for the anime film project. Initially launched in 2012 as a revised retelling of Kawahara’s original Sword Art Online novels, the series depicts the protagonist Kirito’s journey through the floating Aincrad castle, floor-by-floor, from the very beginning. Yen Press is publishing the Sword Art Online: Progressive novel series in English, as well as two manga adaptations.

Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night, the first anime film in the project, opened in Japan in October 2021, topping the box office in its first weekend. The film was later released in over 40 countries and territories worldwide, and PVR Pictures brought it to India in February 2022.

Overall, Sword Art Online The Movie – Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated anime films of 2022, and with its impressive box office success and dedicated fanbase, it is sure to be a thrilling cinematic experience.
