In July 2022, Bigwest made an exciting announcement about AnimEigo’s upcoming release of the anime on Blu-ray Disc. Woodhead, in a tweet, disclosed that the release of Macross II would feature a high-definition transfer instead of a mere upscale.

Originally airing in 1992, this six-episode anime takes place eighty years after Space War I and revolves around a civilian news reporter who encounters a enigmatic singer hailing from an undiscovered alien race.
In 1982, Studio Nue kickstarted the Macross franchise with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, an anime series that blended a love triangle, music, and transforming fighter planes. Collaborating with advertising agency Bigwest and anime studio Tatsunoko Production, Studio Nue brought this captivating world to life.
Since then, the Macross franchise has flourished, giving rise to three additional TV series (Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta), multiple theatrical films (including the renowned The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?), and various video series (such as Macross II, Macross Plus, Macross Dynamite 7, and Macross Zero). Macross Delta aired from April to September 2016, preceded by a preview of its first episode in 2015.
The latest animated endeavor within the Macross franchise arrived in October 2021, captivating audiences in Japan with the release of Gekijōban Macross Delta: Zettai LIVE!!!!!!, a feature film. Accompanying this was the “Gekijō Tanpen Macross Frontier Toki no Meikyū” (Macross Frontier Film Short: Labyrinth of Time), a delightful film short.
Excitingly, Sunrise has unveiled plans for a new Macross animation project, promising to ignite fans’ passion once again.
A significant development took place in April 2021 when Bigwest, Studio Nue, and Harmony Gold USA jointly announced their agreement to globally distribute most Macross television sequels and films without delay. Additionally, these companies have committed to collaborating on the distribution of upcoming Macross and Robotech projects, ensuring a bright future for both franchises.
