The film will be Ishizuka’s first original anime film. Ishizuka commented that the film will be set in Iceland, saying that “after reaching Antarctica” in his previous anime A Place Further Than the Universe, he opened a map and looked for the opposite end of Antarctica. “Far west of Eurasia lies an isolated island that marks the confines of the Atlantic”. He added that the story will focus on a 15-year-old boy on the brink of adulthood as summer vacation begins. The teaser image for the film appears to show Guðjón Ketilsson’s sculpture of a telephone booth, commemorating the centenary of the opening of the first international telegraph cable in Iceland.
