The live-action TV adaptation of Satsuki Yoshino’s Barakamon manga has confirmed that Kenichi Endо̄ will portray Seimei Handa, the father of protagonist Seishū. Set to premiere on Fuji TV, the series will air on Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m. JST. Yōsuke Sugino takes on the role of Seishū Handa, while Ririsa Miyazaki plays Naru Kotoishi.

Keita Kono directs the series, with scripts written by Kumiko Asо̄. Planning is overseen by Juichi Uehara, while Masataka Takamaru handles production.

Yoshino initially launched the manga in 2009 in Square Enix’s Gangan Online magazine, later expanding its serialization in Monthly Shonen Gangan in 2014. The manga concluded with its 18th volume in December 2018, but returned for a limited serialization on April 12.

The manga’s success led to a 12-episode anime adaptation in July 2014, streamed by Crunchyroll and Funimation. Funimation also released the series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in 2016. Yen Press publishes the manga in North America, providing the following synopsis:
Seishū Handa, a handsome young calligrapher, moves to a remote island on the westernmost edge of Japan for a certain reason. As a city boy, he is new to rural life and faces a steep learning curve. From navigating tractor-filled roads to having his new home claimed by local children as their hangout spot, Sensei’s hardships keep piling up!
Yoshino also created the Barakamon prequel manga Handa-kun, serialized in Monthly Shonen Gangan from October 2013 to June 2016. Yen Press has released all seven volumes in English. The prequel received an anime adaptation in July 2016, with Funimation distributing it on home video in November 2018.

Following the conclusion of Barakamon, Yoshino launched the manga Yoshi no Zuikara: The Frog in the Well Does Not Know the Ocean, which ended in May 2020. Yen Press publishes the English version. Yoshino’s next work, Eighteen, debuted in Monthly Shonen Gangan in August 2020 and concluded in January 2022. Manga UP! Global releases the series digitally in English.
