The journey of the Butt Detective television anime began back in May 2018 with its initial three episodes premiering on NHK Educational. Soon after, a fresh set of seven episodes graced screens in July 2018.
Fast forward to December 2018, when the anime transitioned into regular weekly broadcasts, captivating its dedicated audience. The year 2022 saw the release of 13 new episodes in April, followed by an impressive 15 more in April 2023.

As part of the franchise’s cinematic offerings, Eiga Oshiri Tantei Shiriarty, the first feature-length film, made its debut in Japan in March 2022. Notably, this film marked a standalone feature, setting it apart from the previous entries.
Additionally, let’s not forget Eiga Oshiri Tantei: Sufūre-to no Himitsu (Butt Detective the Movie: The Secret of Sufūre Island), which graced Japanese theaters in August 2021 as part of the Toei Manga Matsuri omnibus project.
While Eiga Oshiri Tantei Shiriarty is the fourth installment in the Butt Detective film series, it stands as the inaugural standalone feature.
