(Last Updated On: September 7, 2023)

Kadokawa has just unveiled an exciting new promotional video for the upcoming second season of Daisuke Aizawa’s renowned light novel series, “The Eminence in Shadow” (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!). This enticing preview showcases the opening theme song, “grayscale dominator,” performed by the talented music duo OxT, who previously lent their talents to the anime’s first season.

Fans had the privilege of witnessing a world premiere screening of the anime, organized by HIDIVE and Kadokawa, at Anime Expo on July 1 this year. The highly anticipated second season is set to make its debut in October and will feature a total of 12 gripping episodes. The creative team behind the first season is returning, with Nexus Studios once again at the helm. HIDIVE will ensure that fans worldwide can enjoy the series, offering both English-subtitled and English-dubbed versions.

The inaugural season of this captivating anime initially aired in October 2022 and concluded on February 15.

HIDIVE provides an intriguing synopsis of the storyline:

“In a world where some individuals find themselves ill-suited for the flashy hero or villain roles, there are those who excel in the shadows, manipulating society with their cunning and intelligence.

This is the role that Cid aspires to assume when he is suddenly transported to another world. Cid weaves elaborate tales and becomes the unexpected leader of the clandestine Shadow Garden organization, dedicated to opposing a sinister cult (a cult that he, of course, invented). However, there’s an unforeseen twist even in Cid’s vivid imagination: the cult he fabricated actually exists, and they’re not pleased that his power fantasy has disrupted their nefarious plans!”

Eminence in Shadow Season 2

The second season of “The Eminence in Shadow” is helmed by director Kazuya Nakanishi (known for his work as chief animation director on “Darwin’s Game”) and animated by Nexus (renowned for “Darwin’s Game” and “Granbelm”). Makoto Iino (of “Suppose a Kid From the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town” and “Demon Lord, Retry!”) skillfully adapts Tōzai’s original character designs for the animation. Kanichi Katou (credited for “Black Clover” and “Those Snow White Notes”) oversees the series scripts, while Kenichiro Suehiro composes the music.

Yen Press has secured the licenses for both the light novels and the manga adaptation of this captivating series.

Daisuke Aizawa embarked on the serialized journey of this tale on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” (Let’s Become Novelists) website in May 2018, and Kadokawa subsequently commenced the publication of physical volumes, featuring art by Tōzai, starting with the inaugural volume in November 2018. Anri Sakano initiated the manga adaptation in Kadokawa’s Comp Ace magazine in December 2018. In July 2019, Seta U introduced a spinoff manga titled “Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! Shadow Gaiden” (The Eminence in Shadow – Shadow Side Story) in Comp Ace.
