This Sunday, Houbunsha’s Comic Fuz website announced the launch of a new spinoff manga, “Bocchi the Rock! Gaiden: Hiroi Kikuri no Fukazake Nikki” (Bocchi the Rock! Spinoff: Kikuri Hiroi’s Heavy Drinking Diary). The manga serves as an extension to Aki Hamaji’s popular four-panel series, “Bocchi the Rock!”. The site has committed to biweekly releases of new chapters every Sunday.
The spinoff delves into the daily life of Kikuri Hiroi, the 25-year-old bassist of the band SICK HACK. Navigating through her anxieties about the future, Hiroi finds solace in her alcoholic beverages.

The original Bocchi the Rock! manga first graced the pages of Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Max magazine in December 2017 and continues to be an ongoing series. Yen Press has since obtained the rights to the manga and has planned a series debut for this coming fall.
Bocchi the Rock! also ventured into television with an anime adaptation that premiered in October 2022. Crunchyroll played a significant role in the anime’s reach, streaming episodes concurrently with their airing in Japan. Further building on the success of the series, a compilation film has been announced for Spring 2024.
But the influence of the manga doesn’t stop at print and screen. A stage adaptation, in the form of a musical, has been set to run from August 11-20 in Tokyo, marking yet another avenue for fans to experience the compelling world of Bocchi the Rock!
In the meantime, fans can look forward to the upcoming spinoff and immerse themselves in the intriguing life of Kikuri Hiroi, the bassist with a penchant for heavy drinking.
