The anime will make its debut on Hulu in the United States on July 9, precisely at 5:00 a.m. EDT. On Sunday, Viz Media made an exciting announcement unveiling KANA-BOON as the performer of the opening theme song titled “Song of the Dead,” while Shiyui takes on the task of delivering the ending theme song “Happiness of the Dead.” Additionally, the anime’s official website treated fans with a commercial that not only confirmed the show’s anticipated premiere in Japan on July 9 but also offered a sneak peek at the captivating theme song by KANA-BOON.

Viz Media has acquired the North American, Latin American, Australian, and New Zealand licenses for the anime. This captivating series is a collaborative effort between Viz Media, Shogakukan, and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Japan.

Leading the cast is Shūichirō Umeda, who portrays the protagonist Akira Tendo. Tomori Kusunoki joins as the co-star, playing the role of Shizuka Mikazuki, a diligent employee in a foreign finance company. Shizuka always prioritizes caution over risk and has compiled an internal checklist titled “100 things you must do to avoid becoming a zombie.”

The anime is helmed by director Kazuki Kawagoe, in collaboration with studio BUG FILMS, while Hanako Ueda serves as the assistant director. Hiroshi Seko oversees the series scripts, Kii Tanaka takes charge as the character designer, and Junpei Fukuchi designs the zombies that appear in the series. The talented Makoto Miyazaki composes the captivating music, with Maiko Gōda in charge of “Music Selection” and dugout handling the sound production. Producing the anime is Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Co., Ltd.

Escaping the clutches of wage slavery, surviving a zombie apocalypse brings more fulfillment to Akira’s existence. His life, once drained by toiling for a soul-crushing corporation, has lost its shine. In a squalid apartment amidst a sea of trash, he receives meager pay and struggles to gather the courage to confess his love to a stunning colleague. However, when a zombie outbreak decimates his town, Akira finds the impetus to embrace a life lived on his terms. With determination in his heart, he embarks on a quest to conquer all 100 items on his bucket list before…well, before life reaches its end.

Now, the manga’s compelling storyline is set to captivate audiences on a global scale with an upcoming live-action film. Scheduled for release on Netflix worldwide in 2023, this adaptation promises to bring Akira’s extraordinary journey to life. Notably, Netflix has previously demonstrated success with another live-action series adaptation, inspired by Aso’s Alice in Borderland manga. Debuting on the streaming platform in December 2021, it quickly garnered a dedicated fanbase and a second season swiftly followed in December 2022.
