I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in the Class Light Novel Series Gets Anime Adaptation

During the Sneaker Bunko 35th Anniversary Festa livestream event, an exciting announcement was made for fans of the “Class de 2-banme ni Kawaii Onnanoko to Tomodachi ni Natta” (I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in the Class) light novel series. An anime project based on the series is currently in development, generating anticipation among anime enthusiasts.

Penned by Takata, the light novel series debuted on Kadokawa’s Kakuyomu platform in November 2020. The inaugural volume, featuring illustrations by Tom Osabe, was published under Kadokawa’s Sneaker Bunko imprint in December 2021.

Complementing the light novel, a manga adaptation by Rin Ono is actively ongoing on Kadokawa’s Comic Alive+ website. Additionally, last year, Kadokawa treated fans to a voice drama video, featuring Manaka Iwami as the voice of Umi Asanagi and Haruki Ishiya as Maki Maehara.

The heartwarming romantic comedy centers around Maki Maehara, a high school student struggling to find his place. Everything changes when he forms an unexpected friendship with Umi Asanagi, who holds the title of the “second cutest girl” in their class. While Umi usually spends her afternoons with the class’s top beauty, Yuu Amami, Fridays are reserved for her special bond with Maehara. Together, they relish in indoor activities like indulging in snacks, watching TV, reading manga, playing video games, and more.
