Indian Cosplayers Triumph Nationally, Set to Shine at Pop Culture Hiroshima

In an exciting triumph for Indian cosplay enthusiasts, Juliana Pinggam and Gyamar Apa, collectively known as “Team Eternal Moon,” have emerged as the winners of the Pop Culture Hiroshima India 2023 competition. Their victory has earned them the prestigious opportunity to represent India at the upcoming Pop Culture Hiroshima event in Japan, scheduled to take place from October 14 to 15, 2023.

The competition, a celebration of anime, cosplay, and pop culture, was organized by Flying Monals in collaboration with Cosplay Conversation, AIMAP (Association of India Fans for Manga and Anime), and Pop Culture. It unfolded in the splendid setting of the DK Convention Hall in the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar.

Juliana, a first-year BA student in Shillong, and Gyamar, a graduate student of Shillong College, showcased their exceptional cosplay skills during the grand finale of the PCH India Preliminary competition, held on August 20 in Itanagar. This year, Arunachal Pradesh had the honor of hosting the national competition, which serves as the platform for selecting the Indian representatives for Pop Culture Hiroshima.

Pop Culture Hiroshima is a prominent annual event held in Hiroshima, Japan, attracting anime and cosplay enthusiasts from around the world. The event is a vibrant gathering where participants not only showcase their meticulously crafted costumes and makeup but also deliver captivating performances. It’s an opportunity for cosplayers and fans to immerse themselves in a world of creativity and fandom.

Last year, Team Samadon, featuring cosplayers Shima Angom and Yuki Lamabam, proudly represented India at Pop Culture Hiroshima. The selection process for the Indian representatives involves rounds held at different events, such as the Japan Habba Bangalore and the NAJ Cosfest 2022 in Kohima, Nagaland, organized by Nagaland Anime Junkies.

Juliana and Gyamar’s victory marks a significant achievement in the Indian cosplay community, highlighting the growing passion and talent in the country’s pop culture scene. As they prepare to take their cosplay artistry to the international stage, Indian fans eagerly await their performance at Pop Culture Hiroshima 2023.
