Japanese Film Festival Hosts Panel in India on Japanese Films

Staff of the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) announced on Tuesday that it will be hosting a panel discussion on “the trajectory of the Japanese film industry and its future in South Asia” on February 7 at 6:00 pm. IST The panel includes producer Shzo Ichiyama (Ash Is Pureest White, Violent Cop) and editor Bina Paul (sometimes, Carbon). Indian film critic Gautam Bhaskaran will head the panel.

The panel will be on zoom and registration for this will be open till 5:00 PM on February 5. IST

JFF is streaming Petema Inverted and Time of Eve anime movies in India from February 14-27. It is also streaming the live-action film of Yayoiso’s ReLIFE manga. JFF announced on its India Facebook page on January 4 that it was canceling its physical Delhi event due to rising cases of COVID-19.

The Japanese Film Festival screened 11 anime films in India in December 2020 as part of the 2020 festivities.

The Japan Foundation organizes the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) annually in major cities across India. The Foundation hosted the JFF 2019 event in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Gurugram, Chennai and Guwahati. JFF screened films such as Children of the Sea, Garden of Words Your Name., Weathering with You, Lou over the Wall, and live-action Tokyo Ghoul in 2019 in 2019.

The Japan Foundation established its South Asian chapter in New Delhi in 1994. The Foundation promotes Japanese language education along with cultural and intellectual exchange abroad.
