The Northeast region of India is in for a cinematic treat as the Japan Foundation’s Indian Instagram account announced the upcoming Mini Japanese Film Festival (JFF) in Dimapur, Nagaland. Hosted by the Northeast Japan Caravan, the event will take place on February 3rd and 4th and will feature four films by acclaimed director Makoto Shinkai. The festival is free to attend and promises to be an unforgettable experience for all.

The festival will screen Makoto Shinkai’s heart-wrenching romance film “5 Centimeters Per Second“, the science fiction epic “The Place Promised in Our Early Days“, the contemplative drama “The Garden of Words“, and the fantasy adventure “Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below.” These films are not only visually stunning but also explore themes of love, longing, and the human condition. It’s an opportunity to discover the works of one of Japan’s most talented directors and immerse yourself in the rich storytelling and breathtaking animation that his films are known for.
In addition to the film screenings, the festival will also host a variety of interactive activities for visitors to enjoy. There will be a voice actor challenge for those who want to test their voice acting skills, a calligraphy workshop for those interested in Japanese culture and art, a yukata experience to try on traditional Japanese clothing, and a Fukuwarai mini-game, a traditional Japanese game of luck and skill.

The Northeast Japan Caravan event is a series of cultural events that take place in various cities across the Northeast region of India. The caravan has previously made stops in Shillong, Guwahati, and Imphal.
