The story of the original novels is described as an “epic and influential fantasy,” following the extraordinary journey of a 34-year-old shut-in who, after being kicked out by his family and tragically killed by a speeding truck, awakens as an infant in a world of swords and sorcery. Determined not to repeat his past mistakes, he embarks on a thrilling adventure armed with the memories of his previous life.

Rifujin na Magonote initially serialized the tale on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō (Let’s Become Novelists) website from 2012 to 2015, before Kadokawa’s MF Books imprint started publishing the print version in 2014. The series has grown immensely, with the 26th volume shipping in November 2022.
Anime enthusiasts will also rejoice, as the first part of the novels’ anime adaptation premiered in January 2021, followed by the second part in October 2021 after a slight delay. The season, which is available for streaming on Funimation, Crunchyroll, and Hulu, includes the intriguing unaired side-story original video anime (OVA) episode, “Eris the Goblin Slayer.”
The highly anticipated second season of the anime premiered on July 2 and is currently being streamed on Crunchyroll. Spanning two cours, the first half of the season will air from July to September, while the second half is scheduled for April to June 2024, delighting fans with a total of 25 episodes.
