Fuji TV’s upcoming special edition of the “Don’t Call It Mystery” series has unveiled its cast, with Jun Shison taking on the role of Ren Sagara, Totonō’s classmate and seminar companion.

This fresh special not only presents the series’ inaugural episode but also introduces new footage that offers a fresh perspective on the narrative. Audiences will witness the story of Totonō and Ren’s initial encounter, alongside the inclusion of the “Time Capsule” tale from the manga’s 11th volume.

Returning to the lead is Masaki Suda as protagonist Totonō Kunō, joined by Sairi Itō, Onoe Matsuya, Kōsuke Suzuki, Michitaka Tsutsui, and Kenichi Endō. The celebratory special, aligned with the forthcoming live-action film, is set to premiere on Fuji TV on September 9.
Based on Yumi Tamura’s manga, the live-action TV adaptation debuted on Fuji TV in January 2022. The impending film, scheduled for release on September 15, will revolve around the manga’s “Hiroshima Arc” found in volumes two to four.

Seven Seas Entertainment secured the manga license, issuing the first omnibus volume on May 30. In this manga, Totonou, a college student with a distinctive mane of hair and sharp deductive abilities, is propelled into action when accused of murder. Employing his astute insights, he unveils the true culprit. His yearning for a quiet existence is frequently disrupted by successive mysteries. In his candid yet compassionate manner, Totonou seeks truth amid a tumultuous and often perilous world.

Yumi Tamura initially presented a one-shot in Monthly Flowers in November 2016, followed by a full serialization a year later in November 2017. Recognizing its merit, Kodansha honored the manga at its 44th annual Manga Awards in April 2020. The work also earned a nomination for the 13th Manga Taisho Awards in January 2020.
