Aniplex’s YouTube channel recently started streaming a captivating behind-the-scenes video for “JUNK WORLD,” Takahide Hori’s much-anticipated sequel to his 2021 stop-motion animated masterpiece, “JUNK HEAD.”

The video offers an intriguing glimpse into the meticulous craftsmanship behind the film, delving into the intricate process of crafting models, sets, robots, and sound effects. It also sheds light on the intricate art of capturing each frame of animation, revealing that it consumes a staggering two hours to record just six seconds of cinematic magic.

Anticipated by fans worldwide, “JUNK WORLD” is set to make its grand debut on the silver screen in 2025. To ensure the project’s success, Hori initiated a crowdfunding campaign, aiming to secure additional resources and talented staff members to enhance efficiency and elevate the film’s quality.
The initial campaign garnered an impressive 13,663,200 yen (approximately US$94,000), while the ongoing second campaign has amassed 2,808,000 yen (about US$19,206) at the time of this report. Remarkably, there’s no fixed deadline for the new campaign, meaning that the project will forge ahead, harnessing the accumulated funds, regardless of the final total.
Notably, Hori takes on a multifaceted role in the movie’s creation, assuming responsibilities that encompass directing, scriptwriting, character design, editing, music composition, storyboarding, modeling, and even lending his voice to the characters.

Anime Limited initially released the original “JUNK HEAD” film, a dystopian tale that unfolds in a future where humanity’s pursuit of longevity has come at the cost of its ability to reproduce. In response, an artificial species was engineered to supplement the dwindling workforce, but it eventually rebelled and established its own subterranean society. The saga of “JUNK HEAD” includes a new theatrical cut that premiered in March 2021, with its North American debut at Montreal’s 25th Fantasia International Film Festival in August 2021. The film’s exceptional qualities were recognized when it clinched the prestigious Cigogne d’or prize for animated film at the 2021 Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival, solidifying its status as a groundbreaking cinematic achievement.
