Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Star Sage Film Unveils Video with Yorushika’s Theme

The official website for “Kaina of the Great Snow Sea” (Ōyukiumi no Kaina), the television anime created by Tsutomu Nihei and Polygon Pictures, known for their work on “BLAME!” and “Knights of Sidonia,” has unveiled a special video for the upcoming film sequel, “Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Star Sage” (Ōyukiumi no Kaina: Hoshi no Kenja).

This captivating video features the film’s theme song, “Gekkōyoku” (Bathing in Moonlight), performed by yorushika, perfectly synchronized with stunning footage from the film, accompanied by the poignant lyrics.

Japanese audiences eagerly await the film’s premiere on October 13, while fans in the United States were treated to an exclusive showing at Anime Expo on July 2. Additionally, a special advance screening with the cast will take place at Tokyo’s TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku on October 8.

In this exciting installment, Natsuki Hanae takes on the role of Byōzan, a compelling new character with a mission to dismantle the enigmatic Orbital Spire Trees.

The television anime series made its debut on Fuji TV’s Ultra+ block in Japan on January 12, later expanding its reach to audiences through Kansai TV, Tokai TV, TV Nishinippon, Hokkaido Cultural Broadcasting Co., Ltd., and BS Fuji. The television series concluded its run recently. International fans can enjoy the series on Crunchyroll, which also had the privilege of hosting the world premiere of the first four episodes at Crunchyroll Expo on August 6.

Set in a mesmerizing world where the land is gradually consumed by the relentless Great Snow Sea, this “boy-meets-girl high fantasy” portrays the harsh existence of humanity on the Canopy (Tenmaku), a vast expanse from the roots to the summits of colossal Orbital Spire Trees. The heart of the narrative revolves around Kaina, a young boy living above the Canopy, and Liliha, the princess of the small nation Atland situated within the Great Snow Sea.

The manga adaptation of this captivating tale made its debut in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine in February 2022. For fans worldwide, Crunchyroll offers the manga outside of Asia.
