
Manga creator Gosaku Ota passed away on December 12 at the age of 74, according to Studio Nue co-founder Haruka Takachiho. Ota was known for his adaptations of Go Nagai’s works such as Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, UFO Robo Grandizer, Getter Robo, Getter Robo G, and Kotetsu Zieg.
He also created the fishing manga Tsuri Baka Taishō and the Groizer X anime and drew the latter half of the Go Nagai-created Machine Saurer manga. Ota began his career as an assistant to Shotaro Ishinomori before debuting as a shōjo manga creator.

He was admired for his work in the industry and will be remembered for his contributions to the world of manga. According to the Sponichi news website, Ota contracted COVID-19 at the end of November and was taken to the hospital via emergency transport.
His condition had stabilized, but as his strength decreased he developed pneumonia and ultimately passed away from the illness. Ota’s passing is a loss for the manga community, and he will be greatly missed.
