Naruto (Japanese: ナ ル ト) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. It tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who seeks recognition from his peers and dreams of becoming the Hokage, the leader of his village. The story is told in two parts: the first set in Naruto’s preteen years and the second in his teens. The series is based on two one-shot manga by Kishimoto: Karakuri (1995), which earned Kishimoto an honorable mention in Shueisha’s monthly Hop Step Award the following year, and Naruto (1997).

The series was adapted into eleven films; the first three correspond to the first anime series, and the remaining eight correspond to the second series. The dates listed below are for the original Japanese release; all the films were released in English, usually no more than three years later.

1. Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow (2004)
Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno watch a movie starring Yukie Fujikaze at a local theater. Kakashi Hatake has summoned them to watch him in preparation for his next mission: to prevent Yukie, who plays Princess Gale in the movies, from being captured during the production of her latest film. Meanwhile, Doto discovers the hidden treasure to transform the island into the Land of Spring using a heat generator. Naruto faces him in a duel, but is overpowered as Sasuke uses his Chidori (千 鳥, literally “A Thousand Birds”) to weaken Doto’s armor. Soon after, Naruto unleashes his energy and uses his new seven-colored Rasengan Chakra, killing Doto and activating a mirror to transform the earth. As a consequence, Koyuki decides to claim her rightful place in royalty and even personally mentions with Team 7 that even in the life of royalty, her acting career will not end.
2. Naruto the Movie: Legend of the Stone of Gelel (2005)
On a desolate beach, a night battle is fought between sand ninjas and bulky warriors in robot-like armor. Gaara and the group of sand ninjas win the game and when the remaining warriors begin to retreat into the ocean, they fire flares at night to reveal a large battleship waiting on shore.
Meanwhile, Naruto Uzumaki, Shikamaru Nara, and Sakura Haruno are on a mission to retrieve a lost pet ferret when they too are attacked by armored warriors, as well as a mysterious knight named Temujin. After a short battle, both Temujin and Naruto are knocked off a nearby cliff. Shikamaru and Sakura run to the edge to see if they can see their friend, when suddenly a huge machine, like a giant moving cathedral, cuts through the forest and stops not far away.
Naruto and Temujin wake up to find themselves in a moving caravan led by Kahiko and Emina. Fortunately, the ferret, Nerugui, has survived the fall and has grown fond of Temujin to the chagrin of Kahiko, who discovers that Naruto is the person who ordered the mission. Shikamaru investigates the cathedral and discovers a room full of capsules containing human beings. In the Chamber of Sealing, Haido informs Temujin that he killed his parents. After destroying the stone of Teumjin, Haido attempts to use his real power to kill him, but the sacrificing soldiers arrive to save the repentant Temujin. While Naruto uses the green and orange Rasengan (螺旋 丸, illuminated spiral sphere, manga in English: “Spiral Chakra Sphere”) to destroy the stone and defeat Haido, Naruto, Temujin and Kahiko discover that the mine loses control. 3. Naruto the Movie: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom (2006)
Naruto Uzumaki, Kakashi Hatake, Sakura Haruno, and Rock Lee are assigned to protect Prince Hikaru Tsuki and his father Michiru.
While heading to the rich crescent-shaped island called Land of the Moon, the group arrives to reclaim the circus, where Hikaru befriends the rare saber-toothed tiger Chamu. After meeting Michiru’s ex-wife Amayo, Naruto saves Hikaru and Chamu from the storm. The group reaches the island, where the self-proclaimed King Shabadaba betrays them. Rock Lee first follows the Iga Bouga clan and learns a new jutsu. Korega helps the group escape from the castle to the cave, where they cry for Hikaru’s grandfather, Kakeru. On the shore, the group encounters three Shabadaba attendants, who kidnap and take Michiru back to the castle, where Shabadaba declares himself the richest person. The group uses the circus to infiltrate the palace and fight many soldiers in the courtyard. As Sakura and Lee defeat Kongō and Karenbana, Naruto and Hikaru save Michiru from falling and dying. After Ishidate petrifies Shadabada, Naruto uses the Crescent Moon Rasengan to defeat Ishidate.
As Michiru becomes the king of the island, Naruto, Kakashi, Sakura, and Lee return home.
4. Naruto Shippuden the Movie (2007)
The opening scene of the film shows Naruto fighting a monster, only to be killed by it. The setting dates back to a few days earlier, where a man named Yomi attacks a shrine, to retrieve the spirit of Mōryō, a demon who tried to destroy the world and create his “Kingdom of a Thousand Years”. As a body was missing, Yomi offered hers as a temporary substitute, until they could retrieve Mōryō’s original sealed in a different shrine.
The only threat to Mōryō’s plan was a priestess known as Shion, who could seal her spirit once more. He raises an army of stone from its slumber, to attack the rest of the world, while his 4 subordinates go to assassinate Shion. They are given special chakra creatures to enhance their strength.
To deal with the threat, Konohagakure sends many teams to stop the stone army. Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, Neji Hyūga, and Rock Lee are sent to protect Shion and bring her to the shrine where Mōryō’s body was sealed. They defend themselves from their 4 would-be assassins, who are exhausted in a failed attempt to kill Naruto. Shion tells Naruto about his upcoming death; Although initially skeptical, her assistant, Taruho, explains that Shion can see the future and that all events that happen in her visions are 100% true. As they head to the shrine, the group is ambushed once more by Yomi’s 4 subordinates and split into 2 teams.
