Great news for anime fans in India! Makoto Shinkai’s latest film, Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari), will be released in Indian theaters on April 21st with a Hindi dub and English subtitles. The film has already been a massive success in Japan, selling 1.33 million tickets and earning US$13.49 million in just its first three days.


This makes it even more successful than Shinkai’s previous films, your name. and Weathering With You. As of Sunday, Suzume has earned a total of US$109 million, surpassing the lifetime box office earnings of Weathering With You. It has now become the 14th highest-earning film in Japan and the 8th highest-earning anime film in Japan.

Suzume follows the journey of a young woman named Suzume Iwato, voiced by actress Nanoka Hara, and a young man named Sōta Munakata, voiced by Hokuto Matsumura. They embark on a journey together as the “Door-Closing Master.” The film was directed and written by Makoto Shinkai, with character designs by Masayoshi Tanaka, animation direction by Kenichi Tsuchiya, and art direction by Takumi Tanji.
The film was produced by CoMix Wave Films and Story Inc., with distribution by TOHO. The film’s score was composed by Kazuma Jinnouchi and RADWIMPS, and the theme song “Suzume” was performed by TikTok performer Toaka.
