Mark your calendars for October 7 when the Matsuinu anime will make its debut as part of TV Tokyo’s Eeny Meeny Miney Mo (Iniminimanimo) program, starting at 7:00 a.m. (October 6 at 6:00 p.m. EDT). Additionally, fans can catch the series on the AT-X channel starting on October 12 at 10:05 p.m. JST (9:05 a.m. EDT).
Matsuinu initially took its first steps as a line of game prizes, reimagining the Matsuno brothers as adorable Shiba Inu, husky, retriever, Boston terrier, Pomeranian, and chihuahua characters back in March 2018. Since then, it has expanded its presence through various exciting ventures, including collaboration cafes, merchandise sales, and captivating books.
The Mr. Osomatsu television anime, which serves as the inspiration for Matsuinu, traces its roots back to Fujio Akatsuka’s original Osomatsu-kun manga and the lively “high tension comedy” TV anime. This delightful series centers around the Matsuno household, home to six mischievous and naughty sons who happen to be sextuplets. Their shared affection for the charming Totoko adds to the hilarity. While the original Osomatsu-kun series depicted the sons at 10 years old, Mr. Osomatsu reimagines them as adults, offering a fresh twist on the classic narrative.
Notably, the Mr. Osomatsu anime franchise announced its plans for two new anime films in June 2021, featuring limited theater screenings in Japan in 2022 and 2023. The first installment, “Osomatsu-san Hipipo-Zoku to Kagayaku Kajitsu,” graced Japanese theaters in July 2022, with the second film, “Osomatsu-san: Tamashii no Takoyaki Party to Densetsu no Otomari-kai” (Mr. Osomatsu: The Soul’s Takoyaki Party and the Legendary Sleepover Party), premiering on July 21.
