My Hero Academia Hollywood Live-Action Film Under Works

Entertainment news sources Variety and Deadline reported Monday that Netflix will produce and distribute Legendary’s Hollywood live-action film Kohei Horikoshi My Hero Academia manga. Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Army of the Dead, the upcoming Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Godzilla and the Titans) is writing the screenplay.

Shinsuke Saito (live-action Bleach, Alice in Borderlands, Kingdom, Death Knot Light Up the New World, Gantz, I Am a Hero) is directing the film.

Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter are overseeing the project for Legendary Entertainment, while manga editor Ryosuke Yoritomi will be overseeing the project for Shueisha. TOHO will distribute the film in Japan.

The story takes place in a world where 80% of the population has developed “gifts”, thus emerging heroes and villains. Among the 20% of people without gifts, is Izuku Midoriya, whose greatest wish is to be able to study at the UA and become a hero like her idol All Might. 3 One day, after meeting All Might personally, he offers to inherit his powers when he sees his great determination despite being born without a gift. Izuku agrees and begins studying at UA, where she makes new friends, meets other professional heroes, learns to master his powers, and faces real villains.


My Hero Academia is a manga series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi. It is based on a one-shot by the same author and published in the fifth volume of the Ōmagadoki Dōbutsuen manga under the name My Hero . 2 3On January 11, 2015, a VOMIC based on the manga was released. 4

On November 2, 2015, the spin-off manga My Hero Academia Smash!! and written by Hirofumi Neda. 5 An adaptation of the original manga to anime began airing on April 3, 2016. 6 A few extra stories have been adapted by Anri Takahashi in light novel format. 7 In addition, two video games have been developed by the companies Bandai Namco Games and Takara Tomy. 8
