On June 24, coinciding with the birthday of the main character Katarina, exciting details about the upcoming movie “My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!” were revealed. The film is scheduled for release on December 8, 2023, and fans were treated to a teaser visual and a special promotional video.
The popular reincarnation comedy series follows the adventures of a high school girl who finds herself reincarnated as Katarina, the villainess of an otome game she used to play. Katarina must navigate her way around “doom flags” that could lead to her exile or death, in her quest for a happy ending. The TV anime series aired its first season in 2020 and the second in 2021, with the movie announcement coming in 2023.
The film promises a fresh narrative penned by the original author, Satoru Yamaguchi. It will see Katarina, having evaded numerous “doom flags”, encountering new characters and events. The teaser visual showcases Katarina surrounded by familiar faces from the TV series, all set within a film strip. The promotional video also teases the appearance of a mysterious new character, indicating more challenges for Katarina.
The movie will feature the same cast as the TV series, including Maaya Uchida as Katarina Claes and Shouta Aoi as Geordo Stuart, among others. The film is directed by Keisuke Inoue, with the script by Megumi Shimizu and Megumi Sasano, character design by Miwa Oshima, and animation by SILVER LINK.

Movie ticket cards will be available from June 30th, with the first bonus being a unique “gimmick clear file” that alters the image when paper is inserted. Limited edition postcards with movie ticket cards will be sold at “Comic Market 102” at Tokyo Big Sight on August 12th and 13th. Animate stores will also offer movie ticket cards with exclusive merchandise.
The staff expressed their excitement about the movie. Director Keisuke Inoue said, “I’m excited and enthusiastic about making the theatrical version of Hamefura. I hope everyone enjoys it with a sense of festivity, just like usual Katarina.” The scriptwriters and character designer also shared their joy and anticipation for the movie.
