Netflix has announced the upcoming release of the acclaimed television anime adaptation of Shō Harusono’s “Sasaki and Miyano” manga in India, set to premiere on September 1. This follows the series’ initial broadcast on Tokyo MX, KBS Kyoto, and Sun TV in January 2022, and its streaming via Ani-One Asia in India as it aired in Japan.

Plot Overview
The story follows the unexpected relationship between two high school boys: Miyano, a junior with a feminine-looking face who secretly adores BL (Boys’ Love) manga, and Sasaki, a senior oblivious to the world of BL who finds himself inexplicably drawn to Miyano. Their encounter sets off a unique and heartwarming love story that captivates audiences.
Production Team
Directed by Shinji Ishihira, known for his work on “Fairy Tail,” “Log Horizon,” and “Talentless Nana,” the television anime was brought to life at Studio DEEN. The production team includes Assistant Director Takahiro Ueno and Series Scriptwriter Yoshiko Nakamura, recognized for works like “Super Lovers,” “Shōnen Maid,” and “Tada Never Falls in Love.” The character designs were crafted by Maki Fujii, famed for “I’ve Always Liked You,” “The Moment You Fall in Love,” and “Our love has always been 10 centimeters apart.”

In addition to the television series, “Sasaki to Miyano: Sotsugyo-hen” (Graduation Chapter), a film adaptation, opened in Japan on February 17. It screened alongside an anime short adaptation of Harusono’s “Hirano and Kagiura” spinoff manga.

The original “Sasaki and Miyano” manga was launched on the pixiv website in 2016 and later licensed by Yen Press. A novel adaptation penned by Kotoko Hachijō was shipped in March 2020. Further expanding the universe, the “Hirano to Kagiura” spinoff manga about two side characters began in 2019 and runs in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Gene magazine. This spinoff has also inspired its own novel.
Fans of the genre and newcomers alike will soon have the chance to enjoy this tender and engaging series on Netflix in India. With a strong production team and an emotive story, “Sasaki and Miyano” promises to be a standout addition to the growing collection of BL anime available to Indian audiences.
