During Netflix’s recent Drop 01 event on Wednesday, they unveiled the official announcement trailer for an animated series based on CAPCOM’s beloved Devil May Cry game franchise.

Producer Adi Shankar, known for his work on Castlevania, and Alex Larsen, who contributed to Yasuke, wrapped up the scriptwriting for the inaugural season back in November 2021. Excitingly, this series is planned to span multiple seasons.

The first season will comprise a total of eight episodes, featuring iconic characters like Dante, Vergil, and Lady. While IGN previously reported that production would commence in 2022, no concrete release date has been set yet.
Shankar, who acquired the series in November 2018, revealed that this show would be a part of what they’re playfully calling the “bootleg multiverse,” alongside Castlevania.
Notably, the Devil May Cry game series had previously served as the inspiration for a 12-episode television anime produced by Madhouse in 2007. ADV Films and later Funimation released the series on home video, and Crunchyroll began streaming it in June 2017.
Fans of the franchise also enjoyed the release of Devil May Cry 5 in March 2019, available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In 2020, a special edition was launched for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

In addition to its gaming success, the series has spawned novels, manga adaptations, and even a stage play crossover with Sengoku Basara. Tokyo saw the performance of Devil May Cry: The Live Hacker stage play in March 2019.
