Netflix has confirmed that its eagerly awaited live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s acclaimed manga series, “One Piece”, will feature a Hindi dub. This significant news came as the streaming titan unveiled the first teaser trailer at its Tudum 2023 event, alongside the announcement of the series’ premiere date set for August 31.
The live-action series has been in anticipation for years, with fans worldwide curious about how their beloved characters would be brought to life. The inclusion of a Hindi dub now marks an inclusive approach towards the Indian subcontinent’s burgeoning fan base.
The original creator, Eiichiro Oda, who serves as an executive producer, has maintained strict supervision over the project to ensure a faithful adaptation of his work. During a press interaction in May, Oda confirmed that the show would only hit the screens once he was entirely satisfied with the outcome. The first season will comprise eight episodes, as opposed to the initially speculated ten.
The ensemble cast brings together international talents such as Inaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, and Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, among others.
Producer Marty Adelstein, during a video message shared at Jump Festa in 2017, affirmed that the live-action adaptation would kick-off with the East Blue arc, based on his discussions with Oda. The promise is to deliver a series that captures the true essence of “One Piece”.
The availability of a Hindi dub undoubtedly signifies Netflix’s acknowledgment of the growing anime fandom in India and its commitment to making global content accessible to all. This move has sparked excitement among Indian “One Piece” fans who are eagerly waiting to embark on this new adventure. The Hindi-dubbed trailer is now available for viewing on YouTube.
