(Last Updated On: July 24, 2021)

Toei announced at his special Dragon Ball panel at the San Diego Comic-Con virtual event on Friday that the second anime film in the Dragon Ball Super franchise will be titled Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. As the name suggests, the movie will focus on the “superhero” look. The panel staff, which included Masako Nozawa (voiced by Goku), Akio Iyoku (executive producer of the Dragon Ball series and editor of series creator Akira Toriyama), and Norihiro Hayashida (producer of the Dragon Ball television anime and movies series) revealed a teaser video with Goku:

There will be a virtual Dragon Ball Comic-Con booth on the franchise’s official website.

The staff teased that the film will utilize different technology to display visual expression | Animenewsnetwork

New characters will appear in the movie.

The film is scheduled for release in 2022. The release schedule may vary by country and region.

Original creator Akira Toriyama is in charge of the script and character design. He was already starting work on the script while the previous Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie was still in production. Toriyama shared a message to fans:

A brand new movie as “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” is currently in the works!
Like the previous movie, I’m very much leading the production of the story and dialogue for another amazing movie.
It really shouldn’t talk too much about the plot just yet, but be prepared for some extreme and entertaining combat, which can feature an unexpected character.
We will chart uncharted territory in terms of visual aesthetics to give audiences an incredible journey, so I hope everyone is looking forward to seeing the new movie!

Planning for the new film project began in 2018, prior to the release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly. The film aims to tell “a large-scale story.” Aside from story composition and character design, Toriyama is also writing lines of dialogue for the film.

The film will be the 21st anime film in the overall Dragon Ball franchise.

The Dragon Ball Super: Broly film opened in Japan in December 2018. Funimation then began screening the film in theaters in the United States and Canada in January 2019. The film grossed more than $ 120 million worldwide. Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama wrote the script and designed the characters. Tatsuya Nagamine (One Piece Film Z) directed the film, Naohiro Shintani served as animation director, and Kazuo Ogura served as art director. Norihito Sumitomo composed the music. Funimation released the film on home video.

The Dragon Ball Super television anime series premiered in July 2015 and ran for 131 episodes through March 2018. Funimation and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired, and Funimation released it on home video.

Toyotarō launched the Dragon Ball Super manga in V Jump magazine in June 2015 as an anime adaptation, although the manga differs from the anime in several ways. Viz Media is publishing the manga online as it debuts in Japan, and is also publishing the manga in print.
