New Trailer and Cast Announced for Gundam SEED FREEDOM Anime Film

On Tuesday, the team behind the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM film project unveiled its second promotional video, along with the cast lineup and character visuals. The highly anticipated film is scheduled to premiere in Japan on January 26, 2024. The narrative is situated chronologically in C.E. (Cosmic Era) 75.

Steering the film’s direction is Mitsuo Fukuda, renowned for his role as director in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed. Working in collaboration with Bandai Namco Filmworks, Fukuda also takes on the role of co-scriptwriter, sharing this task with his late wife Chiaki Morosawa and Liu Goto.

Character designs are masterfully crafted by Hisashi Hirai, recognized for his contributions to Mobile Suit Gundam Seed.

The film venture is a component of the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Project Ignited campaign, introduced in 2021. This initiative celebrates the 20th anniversary of the original Mobile Suit Gundam Seed anime in 2022, encompassing various elements. Additionally, the initiative encompasses a fresh Mobile Suit Gundam Seed game and the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Eclipse sidestory manga.

Confirming the film’s nature, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed director Mitsuo Fukuda affirmed it as a continuation of the second Gundam Seed TV anime, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny.

The initial Mobile Suit Gundam Seed TV anime aired from 2002 to 2003, succeeded by Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny from 2004 to 2005. Subsequently, the three-part Mobile Suit Gundam Seed C.E.73: Stargazer anime endeavor followed in 2006. The proposed film project was unveiled during the Sony Music Anime Festival ’06 in May 2006.

Chiaki Morosawa, principal scriptwriter for both Gundam Seed series, passed away at age 56 in 2016. Collaborating with her husband, the director of both Gundam Seed TV series, Morosawa had elaborated in 2008 that the project’s narrative was finalized. Yet, her health had been ailing since the culmination of the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny sequel in 2005.
