During the One Piece Day 2023 livestream event on Saturday, fans were treated to an exciting new trailer for the Hollywood live-action series based on Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga.
Oda, the original creator of One Piece and also an executive producer for the series, expressed his deep commitment to its success in a lengthy statement read by Mayumi Tanaka, the Japanese voice of Luffy.
He emphasized that the show would not debut until he was completely “satisfied,” ensuring that every element involved worked in perfect harmony. Excitingly, the series is set to premiere on Netflix on August 31, boasting a tightly-knit storyline spanning eight episodes, refined from the initially reported ten.

As an exclusive streaming platform, Netflix will be the proud home of the highly-anticipated live-action adaptation. The show is being brought to life by Tomorrow Studios, led by producer Marty Adelstein (known for Prison Break and Teen Wolf) in partnership with ITV Studios.
The talented Matt Owens (renowned for Luke Cage and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) serves as the show’s writer, with the brilliant minds of Steven Maeda and Becky Clements as executive producers.
In a video message from Jump Festa in 2017, Adelstein revealed that the series would kick off with the East Blue arc, promising an expansive journey to follow. After personal discussions with Oda, he is dedicated to creating “a true One Piece” that will undoubtedly captivate fans worldwide.
