Fumi Yoshinaga’s “Ooku” will be made into a TV drama. The broadcast will start in January 2023 on NHK General. Serialized in Melody (Hakusensha) from 2004 to 2020, “Ooku” is a sci-fi historical drama set in the Edo period, when a mysterious epidemic that only attacked boys spread throughout the country, causing the number of boys to plummet.
In Japan, where women have taken over the shogunate and other significant positions, and men have been carefully raised as rare “stallions,” various ties between generations of shoguns and their surroundings have been depicted.
