Gorou, a devoted gynecologist and avid idol enthusiast, finds himself utterly stunned when his beloved star, Ai, unexpectedly declares a temporary break. Unbeknownst to Gorou, a peculiar and inexplicable connection is about to intertwine their lives, defying all logical reasoning. In this extraordinary manga collaboration by Aka Akasaka (Kaguya-sama: Love is War) and Mengo Yokoyari (Scum’s Wish), falsehoods become the ultimate weapon wielded by idols, delivering an outrageously captivating tale.

Akasaka and Yokoyari, the creators behind “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” and “Scum’s Wish,” respectively, debuted their manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine in April 2020. Since then, Shueisha has published the manga’s 11th compiled volume on March 17, with the 12th volume set to release on July 19. Yen Press also contributed to the series by publishing the second volume on May 23. For English readers, Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service offers digital releases of the manga. As a recent addition, Akasaka released a compelling short story titled “45510,” which offers a fresh perspective on the idol character Ai.

The manga achieved a remarkable feat in 2021, emerging victorious as the top entry in the seventh “Next Manga Awards” (Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishō). Furthermore, it clinched the esteemed title of Best General Manga in the 46th annual Kodansha Manga Awards the previous year. Notably, this series received nominations for the 26th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize as well as the 14th and 15th Manga Taisho Awards. Its popularity was evident, as it secured the seventh spot on the coveted top 20 list of manga for male readers in the 2022 edition of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook. Impressively, the manga has circulated over 3 million copies to date.

The anime made its debut in Japan on April 12 with an extraordinary 90-minute premiere. HIDIVE is currently streaming the anime simultaneously with its Japanese release, offering an English dub as well. The company proudly declared that this anime has achieved the status of being the “#1 series launch in the streaming service’s entire history.”
