Behind the success of “Idol” lies the anime series Oshi no Ko, an unflinching exploration of the entertainment industry adapted from the manga by Aka Akasaka (Kaguya-sama: Love is War) and Mengo Yokoyari (Scum’s Wish). The anime’s production is a collaboration of renowned talents, including director Daisuke Hiramaki (Asteroid in Love), assistant director Chao Nekotomi (Love is Like a Cocktail), series composition by Jin Tanaka (Laid-Back Camp), and character designs by Kanna Hirayama (Rent-a-Girlfriend). The series is currently streaming on HIDIVE, and Manga Plus releases the English digital chapters, with Yen Press publishing the physical version.
Oshi no Ko depicts the captivating yet turbulent world of showbiz, following Goro, an OB-GYN leading a quiet life in the countryside, and his favorite idol, Ai Hoshino, as she embarks on her journey to stardom. Their paths intertwine in an unexpected encounter, propelling them both into an emotional whirlwind and challenging their perspectives of the entertainment world.
