YOASOBI’s English-language rendition of “Idol” has just made music history. The song, originally performed in Japanese and featuring prominently in the anime series Oshi no Ko, has become the first of its kind to ascend to No.1 on the Billboard Global (excluding the United States) chart, marking a milestone in the global recognition of Japanese music.

The single is not just making waves internationally but also domestically. “Idol” has earned a spot in the top ten on the regular Billboard Global 200 chart and held steadfast at No.1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 for an impressive seven weeks running.

Behind the success of “Idol” lies the anime series Oshi no Ko, an unflinching exploration of the entertainment industry adapted from the manga by Aka Akasaka (Kaguya-sama: Love is War) and Mengo Yokoyari (Scum’s Wish). The anime’s production is a collaboration of renowned talents, including director Daisuke Hiramaki (Asteroid in Love), assistant director Chao Nekotomi (Love is Like a Cocktail), series composition by Jin Tanaka (Laid-Back Camp), and character designs by Kanna Hirayama (Rent-a-Girlfriend).
