Over 100 million yen Raised for RE:cycle of the PENGUINDRUM anime film

After almost two months, the crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the production costs of the Penguindrum 10th anniversary compilation ended with the campaign raising 1,051% of the requested funds. This means that not only the film, which will be titled RE: PENGUINDRUM cycle, is fully funded, but surplus funds will go towards improving animation and creating new songs.

The crowdfunding campaign, which was only open to Japanese residents, raised 105,192,960 yen ($ 957,606) against a funding target of just 10 million yen. As mentioned above, surplus funds will go towards the production of the film, as well as other activities for the tenth anniversary of the television anime series, including a special sponsor-only screening of the full film with director Kunihiko Ikuhara. , as well as general screenings of the film and merchandising for the celebration.

The campaign was fully funded in approximately 150 seconds, generating 10 million yen (USD $ 90,380), after the campaign was launched on April 8, and sponsors received goods, t-shirts, brochures, and their names on the film credits.

This is the first part of Penguindrum’s 10th-anniversary celebrations, with other projects in the works, though they have yet to be confirmed.

RE: PENGUINDRUM cycle, a compilation film of the original television anime from 2011 with new elements, will be directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara, with character designs by Lily Hoshino, the television animation having been made in BRAIN’S BASE and the theatrical edition by Lapin.
