The official website for the anime adaptation of Hatsuharu’s manga “A Girl & Her Guard Dog” (Ojō to Banken-kun) recently unveiled that Masayoshi Ōishi will be lending his talents for the anime’s opening theme, titled “Suki ni Naccha Dame na Hito” (A Person You Shouldn’t Fall in Love With). The digital release of the single is scheduled for September 29, followed by a CD release on November 1. Excitingly, Ōishi will also make a guest appearance during the anime’s advanced screening on September 3 in Japan.

Originally set to debut in October, the anime will now grace screens on September 28 across the TOKYO MX, Yomiuri TV, and BS Asahi channels. To tease the audience, the first two episodes of the anime will receive an exclusive early screening on September 3 at the United Cinemas Toyosu in Tokyo.

Nobuhiro Takamoto, renowned for his work on “Beelzebub” and “VazzRock the Animation,” is at the helm of the anime, leading the project under the banner of project No.9. Overseeing the series’ composition is Aya Satsuki, celebrated for her roles in “My Master Has No Tail” and “Too Cute Crisis.” Handling character design duties is Yukiko Ban, a notable artist known for contributions to “Shining Tears X Wind,” “.hack//SIGN,” and “Yowamushi Pedal.” The anime’s closing theme, “Magie×Magie,” will be brought to life by the talented Kitō.

The manga’s English digital publication is being handled by Kodansha USA Publishing. The narrative of the series unfolds as Isaku unexpectedly finds herself a part of a yakuza clan due to tragic circumstances after losing her parents in a car accident at the tender age of five. Growing up under the wing of her gangster grandfather, she faces isolation from her schoolmates who shy away due to her familial connections.
Eager to embrace a normal life, step into high school, and perhaps discover romance, Isaku’s plans take an unexpected turn as her devoted guardian and family retainer, the 26-year-old Keiya, enrolls alongside her. His unwavering pledge to safeguard her alters the course of her high school journey.
Balancing academics and the complexities of high school life now come with the added challenge of dealing with a pistol-wielding, chain-smoking protector who may or may not be her shining knight. How will this young lady navigate these intricacies?
Debuting in Bessatsu Friend in December 2018, the manga was crafted by Hatsuharu. Its eighth compiled volume, released in Japan in October 2022, marked a significant milestone. However, the series has been on a temporary hiatus since March.

Kodansha USA, known for its commitment to manga enthusiasts, unveiled the eighth volume digitally in English on March 21. Notably, they are also the publisher behind Hatsuharu’s endearing work, “Can I Kiss You Every Day?”
