Ryu Ki-woon’s Gosu Webtoon Gets Anime Adaptation

(Last Updated On: April 18, 2023)

Fans of the popular Korean webtoon Gosu have something to look forward to this year – an animated adaptation produced in collaboration with Japanese animation studio MAPPA. Gosu, written by Ryu Ki-woon and illustrated by Moon Jung-hoo, has been serialized on the Naver Webtoon platform since 2015. The series follows the story of a martial arts prodigy who is forced to go into hiding after his master is killed. He later emerges from hiding to seek revenge on those responsible for his master’s death.

The announcement of the animated adaptation was made in February 2023 by Korean entertainment company Studio Dragon, which will be co-producing the series alongside MAPPA. The adaptation will be directed by Japanese animator Takahiro Omori, who is known for his work on popular anime series such as Durarara!!, Baccano!, and Natsume’s Book of Friends.

Fans of the webtoon can expect the animated adaptation to stay faithful to the source material, as Ryu Ki-woon himself is involved in the project as a scriptwriter. The series is also expected to feature stunning action scenes that showcase the martial arts skills of the main character.

The collaboration between Korean and Japanese animation studios is not new, with notable examples including the hit anime series Attack on Titan, which was co-produced by Wit Studio and Production I.G. The partnership between Studio Dragon and MAPPA for the Gosu adaptation is another example of the growing trend of international collaborations in the anime industry.
