During the “Fantasia Bunko Daikanshasai Online 2023” livestream event, Kadokawa unveiled a promotional video and the creative team for the upcoming second season of the television anime adaptation of Kei Sazane and Ao Nekonabe’s popular light novel series, “Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World” (Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjō, Arui wa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen).
Helming the new season is director Yuki Inaba, known for “KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World,” with Studio Palette and SILVER LINK taking charge of production. Studio Palette also assumes the role of overseeing series composition, ensuring a cohesive narrative.
Character designs are skillfully crafted by Kaori Yoshikawa, who also contributed to “KamiKatsu.” Sound direction is entrusted to Yukio Nagasaki from Bit Grooove Promotion, and the music score is composed by Elements Garden, recognized for their work on the “Uta no Prince Sama” and “Symphogear” franchises. Music production is handled by Pony Canyon.
Originally slated to air this year, the anime is now set to premiere in 2024 following a brief delay. For international fans, Crunchyroll has secured streaming rights for the upcoming season.
The inaugural season of the series made its debut in October 2020. Funimation simulcasted the anime in Japan and provided an English dub for viewers.
The first season was directed by Shin Oonuma and Mirai Minato at SILVER LINK. Series scripts were skillfully handled by Kento Shimoyama, known for works such as “Death March to The Parallel World Rhapsody” and “Good Luck Girl!” Kaori Sato was credited as both character designer and chief animation director, bringing the characters to life.
Yen Press has been responsible for publishing the light novels and their manga adaptation in English. The story revolves around an enduring conflict between the technologically advanced Empire and Nebulis, the realm of magical girls.
It centers on the relationship between the Empire’s youngest knight, known for their exceptional strength, and the princess of their rival nation. Despite their sworn enmity, their mutual admiration for each other’s qualities leads to a compelling exploration of the possibility of ending the ongoing strife.
The light novels first hit the shelves in Japan in May 2017, while the manga adaptation, illustrated by Okama, made its debut in Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine in May 2018.
