Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service recently introduced the app version of its World Maker storyboarding service in Japan. Alongside this launch, the platform is collaborating with Netflix and TOHO to host contests. This innovative app empowers users, regardless of their artistic skills, to design manga thumbnails or storyboards for animation, live-action productions, films, and commercials.

Shonen Jump+ introduced the initial World Maker β (Beta) web service in August 2021. This web service has now evolved into the World Maker app, providing an enhanced user experience.

With the app, users can effortlessly create draft thumbnails for their manga. They have the option to utilize predefined templates or design their own page layouts. The app offers a range of characters, graphic elements, dialogue options, and effects, allowing users to customize their creations. Once the final results are ready, users can conveniently share them online, inviting others to follow and provide comments.
The World Maker app boasts an impressive feature—automatic machine translation of thumbnails and storyboards into 17 languages, including English, Chinese, Korean, and French. This enables creators to reach a wider audience and engage with fans from different linguistic backgrounds.

To celebrate the launch of the app, World Maker is hosting the “World Maker Manga Contest.” Participants are encouraged to submit their thumbnails created with the app between August 1 and October 1. The grand prize winner will have the privilege of having their manga illustrated by Taishi Tsutsui (We Never Learn) for publication on Shonen Jump+. Additionally, the winner will receive a generous cash prize of 500,000 yen (approximately US$3,580).

These contests will offer further opportunities for talented creators to showcase their skills and gain recognition in the industry.
