It was revealed that the forthcoming 43rd compiled volume, set to release on September 22, will feature the manga’s highly anticipated “final chapter.” Although the email did not explicitly label this volume as the series’ ultimate installment, it marks a significant milestone as Space Brothers entered its concluding arc last year.

Koyama launched this captivating manga in Morning magazine back in 2007, and the 42nd volume was published by Kodansha in December 2022. Notably, the series garnered critical acclaim, winning the General categories at the 56th Shogakukan Manga Awards and the 35th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2011.

The immense popularity of Space Brothers led to various adaptations, including a television anime series that aired from 2012 to 2014 and a live-action film released in 2012, starring Shun Oguri and Masaki Okada. Additionally, the 29th manga volume treated fans to a special edition DVD featuring the Space Brothers #0 (Uchū Kyōdai #0) anime film, which delved into the “origin story” of the series. Notably, Koyama penned the original scripts for this captivating film.

Crunchyroll, the prominent anime streaming platform, offered simulcast streaming of the television anime as it aired in Japan, while also providing new manga chapters alongside their publication in Japan by Kodansha. English-speaking fans were not left behind, as Kodansha Comics released the compiled volumes digitally in English. The North American audience was also treated to the television anime’s release by Sentai Filmworks, who acquired the licensing rights for both the series and the Space Brothers #0 film.
