(Last Updated On: September 3, 2023)

Square Enix recently unveiled the captivating opening animation sequence for Star Ocean: The Second Story R, a remake of the second installment in tri-Ace’s renowned Star Ocean RPG series. This captivating video is beautifully accompanied by SUIREN’s melodious track, “stella.” The animation itself is a creation of Yostar Pictures.

Scheduled for release on November 2, this game will be available on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

What sets this remake apart is its innovative “2.5D” visual style, combining 2D sprites with 3D environments enriched by dynamic lighting, reminiscent of acclaimed titles like Octopath Traveler.

Players can immerse themselves in the adventure with the option of English or Japanese audio. Moreover, all event scenes are fully voiced by the original cast.

Players have the freedom to choose between the new voice-over performances and those from the Star Ocean: The Second Evolution remaster, all on a per-character basis. Adding to the allure, Motoi Sakuraba’s iconic soundtrack has been beautifully rearranged with new recordings.

Intriguingly, Star Ocean: The Second Story originally graced the PlayStation in 1998, making its North American debut in 1999. A decade later, Square Enix treated fans to a remaster titled Star Ocean: The Second Evolution on the PlayStation Portable in 2008, followed by its Western release in 2009.

This remaster eventually found its way to the PS3, PS4, and PlayStation Vita in 2015, albeit limited to Japan.
