On June 2, the highly anticipated game launched for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. One of the game’s exciting new features is real-time commentary, where renowned fighting game community commentators provide insightful analysis throughout the match. With subtitles available in 13 languages, this feature includes commentators such as Thea Trinidad (aka Zelina Vega), Vicious, Aru, Japanese commentator and caster Kōsuke Hiraiwa, and Demon Kakka, the frontman of the band Sekima II (formerly known as Demon Kogure).

The game’s roster boasts both familiar and fresh faces. Returning favorites like Ryu, Chun-li, and Luke, the final DLC character for Street Fighter V, make a triumphant comeback. Joining them is Jamie, an exciting newcomer who showcases breakdancing kickboxing skills. Additionally, the launch lineup features Manon, Kimberly, Marisa, Lily, JP, Juri, Dee Jay, Cammy, E. Honda, Blanka, Guile, Ken, Zangief, and Dhalsim.

Furthermore, the game’s downloadable content (DLC) introduces a compelling array of characters. The first wave includes the return of Rashid, the arrival of the new character A.K.I. in fall 2023, the eagerly awaited comeback of Ed in winter 2024, and the iconic Akuma rejoining the fray in spring 2024. Players have the choice to purchase characters individually or acquire them all through a convenient season pass.

A novel addition to the fighting mechanics is the Drive system, which empowers players with a resource gauge to execute five distinct techniques. These include a super armor move, a parry, EX (enhanced) special moves, a forward-moving rush attack, and a low damage reversal. Moreover, the game offers both a classic control scheme and a “modern” control scheme that simplifies special move inputs.

In addition to the familiar fighting game modes such as local and online versus, arcade mode, and training mode, the game introduces a captivating single-player “World Tour” mode. Furthermore, the innovative “Battle Hub” provides players with fresh avenues for engagement, communication, and interaction. An optional versus mode called “Extreme Battle” brings even more excitement, incorporating interactive items, stage elements, and diverse objectives into the fights.
