The story of “The Apothecary Diaries” is set in a distant land and follows Maomao, the daughter of an apothecary, who finds herself kidnapped and sold. Despite her unassuming appearance, Maomao possesses extensive knowledge of medicine. Her path crosses with Jinshi, a perceptive palace resident, who uncovers her true capabilities. This leads to her appointment as a lady-in-waiting to the Emperor’s favorite consort, where her mission is to safeguard him from poison by sampling his food.
The tale, originating from Hyūga’s imagination in 2011, first appeared in printed volumes in 2014 under the Shufunotomo label. To further expand its reach, a manga adaptation hit the scene in May 2017 in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine.
With Director Naganuma at the helm, known for his work on “The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 1,” and a talented creative team behind the scenes, “The Apothecary Diaries” promises to be an enthralling addition to the world of anime. Mark your calendars for October 21, as this captivating journey is set to unfold.
