(Last Updated On: July 18, 2023)

Naruto fans rejoice as the beloved series makes a comeback in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine with a special one-shot manga focused on Minato Namikaze. As part of the Naruto anime’s 20th anniversary celebration, creator Masashi Kishimoto has crafted a new story, selected through fan voting, to delve into Minato’s past and provide fresh insights. This new manga reveals an intriguing detail about the origin of the famous Rasengan jutsu.

In Naruto: The Whorl Within the Spiral, Minato, before Naruto’s birth, finds inspiration for a new technique after encountering the Bijuu bombs during a battle against a Jinchuriki. As Minato develops this swirling technique, he struggles to find a suitable name for it, eventually suggesting the peculiar and tongue-twisting “Ice Pop Inspired Nimbus Jiraiya Twin Whorl Sphere.” Fortunately, Kushina steps in to offer her assistance.

Naruto Reveals How the Rasengan Got Its Name

Kushina shares the significance of the Uzumaki clan’s symbol, clarifying that it represents a helix rather than a simple spiral. She recounts a lesson from her grandmother about the helix’s three-dimensional nature, representing personal growth and one’s determination to rise within it. Deeply moved by Minato’s devotion and realizing the connection between the technique and her own experiences, Kushina takes Minato to the staircase where her grandmother once told her about the helix.
