On Thursday, TV Tokyo unveiled its plans to create a live-action adaptation of Yae Utsumi’s manga “The Shadows of Who We Once Were” (Nare no Hate no Bokura). The series is set to debut simultaneously on TV Tokyo, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, TV Hokkaido, and TVQ Broadcasting Kyushu on June 27th.

The ensemble features Atsuhiro Inukai (pictured on the left, known for his role in the live-action adaptation of “Kimi ni Todoke”) as Miko Yumesaki, while HiHi Jets idol group member Mizuki Inoue (pictured on the right, recognized for his appearance in the live-action version of “Tomodachi Game”) portrays Tōru “Nezu” Sanada.
Heading the series are Hideo Jojo, Keisuke Shibata, and Masayuki Matoba as directors, collaborating with Hideo Jojo, Moral, Ai Suzuki, and Yūta Kurachi who have penned the scripts.

Kodansha USA Publishing has acquired the rights to the manga and is now digitally releasing it. According to their description, Nezu had eagerly anticipated his elementary school reunion, as the class shared an unbreakable bond. However, things take a drastic turn when Nezu’s former classmate, Mikio, reveals that this reunion carries life-or-death stakes. Suddenly, Nezu’s once unbreakable bonds are put to the ultimate test.
Utsumi initially launched the manga in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in January 2020. Later, the manga migrated to the Magazine Pocket app in November 2020. The manga concluded in July 2021. Following the manga’s conclusion, Kodansha published the eighth compiled volume in August 2021. Recently, on January 10, Kodansha USA Publishing released the eighth volume of the manga.
Prior to this manga, Utsumi serialized “Until Your Bones Rot” (Hone ga Kusaru Made) on the Manga Box app from 2016 to 2018. During that time, Kodansha published seven volumes of the manga. Kodansha USA Publishing has taken the initiative to digitally publish the English version of this manga, with the seventh volume being released in July 2018.
