The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes Triumphs at Annecy International Animation Film Festival

The animated feature “The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes” has been honored with the prestigious Paul Grimault Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. This film, a poignant blend of juvenile science fiction and urban legend, has been widely acclaimed for its unique narrative and artistic vision.

The story revolves around the enigmatic “Urashima Tunnel,” a place where one ages upon entry but acquires their deepest desires. It explores the lives of Kaoru Tateno, who is grappling with the loss of his beloved sister, and Anzu Hanashiro, a new student dealing with her own personal struggles. The film, based on a novel by Yame Mayoi, was released in theaters in September 2022.

The film’s official Twitter account expressed the team’s joy at this recognition, stating, “The joy of having this film, which all staff and cast members have sincerely engaged with and poured their talents and efforts into, recognized, is beyond words.”

In addition to its success at Annecy, “The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes” has been nominated for Australia’s oldest film festival, the Melbourne International Film Festival. To celebrate this nomination, a special event has been planned.
