Blockchain game developer CRETA announced on December 12th that they are working on a new game called Tokyo Taisen – Hana to Sakura (Tokyo Wars – Flowers and Cherry Blossoms), which was originally conceptualized by Sakura Wars franchise creator Ouji Hiroi.

At a recent presentation, CRETA revealed that renowned character designer Kousuke Fujishima (known for Sakura Wars and Tales of…) will be reuniting with Hiroi, while Hitoshi Sakimoto (renowned for composing Final Fantasy XII) will be handling the composition for the upcoming title. Although CRETA did not disclose the release date or platforms, they have promised to share more details by the end of the year.

When journalists inquired about Hiroi’s involvement, a representative from CRETA chose not to confirm or deny, but hinted that the assembled team at the event was a subtle indication.
Established in 2021, CRETA specializes in the development of blockchain-based and NFT-based games.
Back in December 2019, Sega released Shin Sakura Taisen for the PlayStation 4 in Japan, which was later introduced to the Western market by Sega of America under the title Sakura Wars in April 2020. The game also inspired a television anime adaptation that premiered in April 2020. Additionally, a manga adaptation by Koyori Noguchi began in September 2019 and concluded with its third volume in July 2020.

Besides Sakura Wars, Hiroi is recognized for creating the multimedia project Between the Sky and Sea, which included a television anime in 2018. Hiroi is also the mastermind behind the takt op. multimedia project, featuring the takt op. Destiny television anime that aired in October 2021, and the takt op. Unmei wa Akaki Senritsu no Machi o smartphone game, which launched on June 28th.
