Tribe Nine By Akatsuki, Too Kyo Games’ Project Gets TV Anime, Smartphone RPG & Webtoon
A new Funimation co-production is officially on the way! Funimation announced that an anime adaptation of Tribe Nine, from LIDENFILMS studio (Tokyo Revengers, The Heroic Legend of Arslan), will officially arrive in January 2022.
News about the anime series, which will be directed by Yu Aoki, was confirmed during a special YouTube Live event, where Too Kyo Games and Akatsuki showed more about the fictional setting of Neo Tokyo and the world of the upcoming franchise. A mobile smartphone game & Webtoon was also revealed.

The Tribe Nine game project was first announced in 2020 with a concept trailer (below) from Too Kyo Games and Kazutaka Kodaka (Danganronpa, Akudama Drive). The development team is no stranger to anime, with their work on Akudama Drive and the Death Come True and World’s End Club video games.
The premise of the series is that different groups throughout the city of Tokyo participate in extreme baseball games, which end up being more like action-packed matchups than anything else.
In 2020, Kodaka told Weekly Famitsu that the project focused on “extreme sports” and “street fighting,” using the city as a playground for sport (although it is not known as a sport).
Too Kyo Games, LLC is a Japanese video game developer founded by former Spike Chunsoft employees. It was formed in 2017 by series writer Danganronpa Kazutaka Kodaka, composer Masafumi Takada, and illustrator Rui Komatsuzaki, as well as Zero Escape director Kotaro Uchikoshi. The company is working on various games and collaborated with Pierrot on the 2020 anime series Akudama Drive.
Akatsuki, Inc. is dedicated to the development of mobile games. It operates through the mobile gaming segment. The mobile games segment develops applications specifically for iOS and Android platforms. The company was founded by Genki Shiota and Tetsuro Koda in June 2010 and is based in Tokyo, Japan.
