On Tuesday, a website was unveiled to reveal the television anime adaptation of Dan Ichikawa’s manga “My New Boss is Goofy” (Atarashii Jōshi wa Do Tennen). The site showcased the anime’s teaser video, visual, cast, and staff.

Ichikawa contributed an exquisite illustration to mark the momentous occasion of the anime adaptation announcement.
The anime’s primary cast comprises the following characters, introduced in the order shown in the teaser:
- Yuichiro Umehara as Yūsei Shirosaki
- Kōtarō Nishiyama as Kentarō Momose
- Tomokazu Sugita as Mitsuo Aoyama
- Jun Fukuyama as Aigo Kinjō
- Hiro Shimono as Hakutō
Noriyuki Abe, the brilliant director behind renowned works like Bleach and Ōoku: The Inner Chambers, joins forces with A-1 Pictures to helm the anime project. Assisting him is the talented Masahiro Yokotani, known for his exceptional work on Beelzebub and The Devil Is a Part-Timer!, who takes the reins as the series scriptwriter. Takahiro Yasuda, celebrated for his remarkable character designs in Wolf Girl & Black Prince and Sekaiichi Hatsukoi: Valentine-hen, assumes the crucial roles of character designer and chief animation director. Maestro Masato Nakayama, recognized for his captivating compositions in Play It Cool, Guys and You and Me., adds his melodic touch as the mastermind behind the music. Completing this stellar team is Jin Aketagawa, the accomplished sound director of anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day and 86, ensuring a sonically immersive experience.
The manga originally debuted on Ichikawa’s Twitter account before it began serialization on Akita Shoten’s Manga Cross website in February 2019. Akita Shoten released the manga’s first compiled volume in August 2019, followed by the second volume in May 2020.
This workplace comedy revolves around Kentarō Momose, a 26-year-old office worker who recently switched jobs due to harassment from his previous boss. Anxious about facing a similar situation with his new boss, Yūsei Shirosaki, Momose tries to conceal his apprehension. However, to his surprise, Shirosaki’s natural airheadedness instantly dispels all of Momose’s worries, bringing a sense of relief to his troubled mind.
The manga achieved notable recognition, securing the third place in the TSUTAYA Comic Grand Prize competition in 2020. Additionally, it claimed the second position in AnimeJapan’s reader poll for the most-desired manga adaptation in 2020. Furthermore, it emerged as the winner of the Web Manga General Election in 2019.
