Viz Media unveiled an exciting addition to its Viz Originals line on Wednesday—a one-shot submissions portal designed for writers in the United States. This innovative platform is set to produce concise, original one-shot stories, with the invaluable guidance of Hisashi Sasaki, the former editor-in-chief of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.
Viz Media will digitally publish the selected one-shots, and the potential for these successful submissions extends far beyond mere publication.
Viz may consider licensing and transforming these stories into captivating anime adaptations, while also delving into the production of consumer products.
In 2019, Viz Media inaugurated the Viz Originals graphic novel imprint, fostering collaborative ventures with creators inspired by manga to craft fresh narratives.
On May 9, Viz Media introduced their new digital manga service, Viz Manga, offering an extensive catalog that boasts simultaneous English releases of ongoing manga from Shogakukan for the very first time.
This impressive collection also features classic manga titles. With over 10,000 chapters from both Shogakukan and Shueisha titles, Viz Manga beckons manga enthusiasts.
It’s important to note that this service is exclusively available in the United States and Canada, with a modest subscription fee of $1.99 per month. Viz continues to provide its dedicated Shonen Jump service as well.
