Undead Unluck Anime Introduces More Cast; Set to Air on Oct 6

In the latest 38th edition of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, it was unveiled on Monday that the TV adaptation of Yoshifumi Tozuka’s manga “Undead Unluck” is set to debut on October 6.

The issue also disclosed additional cast members, while the production team introduced the “Official Characters Trailer” and details about the anime’s global premiere, all on the same day.

The new cast includes (from left to right, top to bottom in the image below):

  • Mariya Ise as Juiz
  • Aoi Yūki as Gina
  • Rie Kugimiya as Tatiana
  • Tomokazu Sugita as Apocalypse
  • Koji Yusa as Nico
  • Nobuhiko Okamoto as Top
  • Rikiya Koyama as Billy

The world premiere of the anime is scheduled for October 1 at Shinjuku Piccadilly in Tokyo. Following that, the anime is set to debut on Hulu in the same month.

Notable cast members include Moe Kahara as Fuuko Izumo, Yūichi Nakamura as Andy, Kenji Nomura portraying Void, and Natsuki Hanae lending his voice to Shen.

TMS Entertainment provides the following description for the anime: What ensues when an ill-fated girl crosses paths with an immortal young man? Utter pandemonium! Weary of inadvertently triggering demise with her unique power, Unluck, Fuuko Izumo embarks on a journey to end it all.

Yet, upon encountering Andy, a man who craves death but remains unkillable, she discovers a newfound purpose to exist—and he finds in her the means to attain the death he’s been yearning for.

The anime sees the core team from the Fire Force anime reuniting: helmed by Yuki Yase and produced by david production (known for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure). The animation’s character designs are spearheaded by Hideyuki Morioka, while Kenichiro Suehiro composes the music. TMS’s UNLIMITED PRODUCE takes charge of production and planning.

Tozuka initially introduced the manga as a one-shot in Weekly Shonen Jump in January 2019. Subsequently, a serialized version commenced in the same magazine in January 2020. Viz Media adopted the digital publication of the manga in January 2020, followed by its print release in May 2021. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus platform also offers the manga digitally.

The manga secured the 14th position on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2021 list for male readers. Additionally, it clinched the sixth “Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishō” (up-and-coming manga awards) in August 2020.
