The much-anticipated seventh annual Sound! Euphonium anime event, scheduled to take place in Uji City today, has been regretfully cancelled due to the relentless onslaught of the season’s second typhoon in Japan. This decision was made in light of severe public transportation disruptions caused by the typhoon across the country.

As per a post published on the official Sound! Euphonium website yesterday, the organizing committee had been vigilantly monitoring the developing weather conditions and weighing the feasibility of carrying out the event. The final decision hinged on the state of public transportation to the event from different regions of Japan.

The typhoon-induced heavy rainfall last night led to the suspension of several train services throughout the country, including local lines running out of Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. Notably, the Tokaido Shinkansen route—the principal line connecting Tokyo to Kyoto and subsequently to Uji—was also affected. In addition to rail transport, flights were grounded due to the extreme weather conditions.

In response to these developments, the organizing committee officially announced the cancellation of both the afternoon and evening events, originally slated for 2 PM and 5 PM respectively. Ticket holders will be refunded via the Pony Canyon ticketing website.
Despite the resumption of Tokaido Shinkansen services from Tokyo to Osaka at noon today, delays continue to persist owing to the large number of stranded passengers trying to complete their journeys.
As fans of the Kyoto Animation-produced franchise face disappointment, the event organizers express their understanding and assure that safety remains a priority during these challenging circumstances.
