Wandering Witch – The Journey of Elaina, based on Jougi Shiraishi’s popular light novel series, has been made available for streaming on the Muse India YouTube channel starting this Tuesday.
The anime series was initially aired on AT-X in Japan in October 2020. It was then concurrently streamed by Muse Asia in India, and later in April, the series was added to Crunchyroll’s offerings for Indian viewers.
Under the accomplished leadership of Toshiyuki Kubooka, known for his work on Harukana Receive and the Berserk film trilogy, the anime was produced at the C2C studio. The series scripts were supervised and penned by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu. Takeshi Oda, drawing from Azuru’s original character art, adapted the design for animation, while concept designs were credited to Kazumasa Nishio.
Contributing to the atmospheric sound design, Reina Ueda performed the opening theme song “Literature”, and the closing theme song “Haiiro no Saga” (Gray Saga) was performed by ChouCho.
The narrative of the series, as described by Yen Press, the publisher of the English version of the light novel series, is a coming-of-age tale of a witch named Elaina. In her travels across the world, Elaina encounters a variety of individuals and experiences, each of which contribute to her own growing worldview and personal development.
The light novel series, significantly popular among the fanbase, secured the #9 position in the 2018 Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! list, and rose to #6 in the subsequent year’s list.
In addition to the anime adaptation, Itsuki Nanao launched a manga adaptation in November 2018 on the Square Enix’s Manga UP! app. This manga adaptation is slated to conclude in its sixth volume in winter 2024. Square Enix Manga & Books is responsible for the manga’s English release, which is also digitally available through the Manga UP! Global service.
